SchoolNew School to Offer Hope to Dyslexic Students - After three years of homeschooling and tutoring Emily, their dyslexic daughter, a couple decided to start a school of their own. If it opens this fall as planned, the Hope Academy for Dyslexics in Concord, Calif., would become the first school in Contra Costa County, and one of the only in the Bay Area, to cater to those with the reading disorder.

School childrenDyslexia Friendly School - Appledore School, Devon, UK, has won a prestigious award for the way it helps pupils develop their literacy and its support for children with dyslexia. The school was one of just six that took part in a county pilot project for the award, which aims to identify and celebrate good practice in promoting literacy development in all children and to recognise schools which meet the needs of most children with dyslexia in mainstream settings.

Sportsmen Lovely Hurling from Sporting Legends - Two Dublin sporting legends are taking part in an initiative to raise funds for charity. Olympic boxing gold medalist Michael Carruth and All-Ireland winning Dublin footballer Charlie Redmond have joined five Irish sporting personalities from non-hurling backgrounds for the Guinness Hurling Bootcamp. Michael and Charlie have nominated the Dyslexia Association of Ireland as their charity.

James Williams Grad Overcomes Dyslexia, Makes Dean's List - James Williams, a 2004 High School graduate, was able to overcome the challenges against him as a dyslexic - after being misdiagnosed for many years - to be named to the Spring 2007 University of North Texas Dean's List. "A lot of dyslexics just give up," said Williams, 21. "A lot of the time they don't know what's out there."
James' struggle began in kindergarten, when he was held back one year because his teacher thought he was immature.
