left and right arrows Left and Right - ' I am right handed so when I get confused as to which way is left and which way is right, I pinch my fingers together in my right hand like I'm holding a pencil. I remember that I write with my right hand'. (Joe, Belgium).

DoughCookie Dough - ' When my dyslexic son was struggling to learn the alphabet at 6 years old. We made cookie dough, divided it, added different food colors, chocolate chips, sprinkles etc. We then formed the dough to make the letters of the alphabet starting with uppercase letters. We then baked them and ate them. This helped him learn the letters and isolate them so they would not move so much on the page.' (J.J., Louisiana, USA )

Highlighter pensHighlighters - ' When I read books, I read with several highlighters close by me. That way when one 'disappears' I can continue. Almost every book I own is 'highlighted' to some degree. I do have 2-3 copies of several 'how to' books. I try to keep some 'clean'. This is not something you want to do to library books. I have paid for many!' (Charlene, USA).

Harry Potter bookBooks with Audio Tapes - ' I have just discovered children's books with an audio tape of the story that my dyslexic daughter (aged 9) can follow. She loves it! It means that she can read books at a higher level than usual, and she enjoys following the text while she listens. I'm sure that it's improving her reading! (Maureen, Los Angeles, CA)

ElephantMnemonic Spelling - ' My daughter is 8 years old and has just been identified as having a learning disability. She has difficulty remembering her spelling words beyond the weekly spelling test. Mnemonic spelling seems to be really helping her. We also use a variety of other things such as spelling in salt, clay, dry ease markers, and stamping letters. Here are some of the saying we have used to correct a few words. They are silly, but they work for us. I hope they will help someone else too.

Again - Again, Gorillas Appear In Nighties.
Friend - Every friend has an I, and hopefully it will never END.
Front - Wreath ON front door. The "O" in on is round like the wreath. (S.S., USA) )
