 UK center Offers Hope for Dyslexia Sufferers -
People in Lancashire who have dyslexia will be thrown a lifeline when a new centre opens its doors in Preston.
The centre, run by Chorley-based Centra Education and Training, uses computers to train people who have difficulties with reading, writing or spelling.

"Little Evidence Vision therapy Works" -
Children's eyes are their windows on learning. When parents see their children struggling to learn in school they rightly seek out answers. They may stumble across something called vision therapy ... "The truth is, there's no clinical evidence showing that vision therapy works," said Dr. Skip Freedman, Executive Medical Director for AllMed Healthcare Management.
Yet enthusiastic practitioners, including optometrists, often may make exaggerated claims and even suggest that vision therapy can remedy learning disabilities, including dyslexia.

Hewlett-Packard - Hewlett Suffered Dyslexia
Contrary to popular notion Hewlett and Packard, the computer entrepreneurs, had their share of dissimlarities and disagreements. Also Hewlett was not a good student because he had a huge learning disability in dyslexia.

IDA Case Supporting Parents' Rights
The International Dyslexia Association submitted an amici curiae brief last week supporting the position of the student in Board of Education of the City School District of the City of New York v. Tom F. on behalf of Gilbert F. In this case the Supreme Court will determine if a child should be forced to "try" an inappropriate placement before the parents can remove the child to an appropriate placement and seek reimbursement. The decision has broad reaching implications for parents, school districts, and most importantly children who receive special education services.

President of the International Dyslexia Association. Emerson Dickman's message is that dyslexia "is a weakness in a sea of strengths ...
The strengths are as important to find and address as the deficits," he said. "All too often we focus on the deficit and not the asset, and we really need to focus on that as well."

British Dyslexia Association Launches Employers' Guide -
A new code of practice to help employers support dyslexic staff was launched by the British Dyslexia Association in September.
The code will give employers advice on supporting workers with dyslexia as well as guidance on policies and procedures relating to the UK Disability Discrimination Act.

 Up to Two Million Britons Have Undiagnosed Dyslexia
Up to two million people in Britain have undiagnosed dyslexia and struggle to spell, read and write without knowing why, it has been claimed.
Only 5.8 per cent of adults are aware they have dyslexia - a learning disability that makes it difficult to decode the written word - while the widely accepted figure for the actual rate is 10 per cent, say experts.
