BoyDyslexia Worries - I believe that my 8-year old son has some form of dyslexia. I have been slightly mentioning it to his very good school for the past two years and they seem to think he is fine.
However, he struggles with reading, writing and maths, and he still mixes up b,d, 3,5,7, u and y.
On reading he looks at the first letter and guesses the rest, or he sounds out the beginning of the word with completely different letters that are on the page. I believe that he sometimes sees things differently on the page than I do. There are a few other factors as well: I am worried about coming across at school as an over-anxious mother and quickly trying to put a name to his problems. However, I really think that there is something going on, HELP!!!!!!

Woman smiling Need Some Feedback ... I'm Feeling Blue - I have read thru most of the site. Never been diagnosed, but I believe I have dyslexia. As a child it took me a while to learn to write, I confused Bs and Ds and many other letters. Kids would make fun of me. I still have to remind myself which side is right and which is left. My memory has never been worse. My reading comprehension is not the best. My writing is OK but it takes me a while to bring my ideas together and to make sense of what I'm thinking (Can I have a pity party? JK).
I'm a nurse and I work in sales. I worked very hard in college and I have a demanding sales job. And for me the hardest part is to be "normal" in a social setting. It is very frustrating for me to have conversations at time. I lose focus and tend to forget what we are talking about. Also, sometimes I take too long to respond to questions. It takes me to long to digest the questions and say the words. Often I completly blank out! Or I can't find the words to explain myself (even if I used the word four sec ago). And I feel like an idiot.
It is starting to take a toll on me. Stress seems to bring these symtoms out even more and my confidence is going down the tubes. Do you guys think that my symptoms correlate with dyslexia? And I NEED suggestions about any help or resources for verbalization and concentration isuues. I'm 40 yrs old. Should I get tested? Or just leave it alone? I was thinking about going back to school.(I'm apprehensive) Thanks!
